Zoma Wallace is an artist, independent curator, and writer raising a family in her hometown of Washington, D.C.
For the past 20 years, Zoma has charted a unique path as a creative, earning respect and recognition for her sharp aesthetic instincts, adventurous ideas, and thoughtful critical insights.
Many in the D.C. arts community know her from a decade of public service as the city’s curator through the DC Commission of the Arts & Humanities. There, she transformed the municipal art landscape entirely, expanding the fine art collection with diverse contemporary acquisitions, instituting a robust gallery exhibition program, and establishing a new grant to fund emerging curators in realizing compelling conceptual projects.
Since leaving the Art Commission in 2018, Zoma has left her unmistakable curatorial imprint on key public art projects, artist studio outputs, and exhibitions across the region. She recently served as President of the Black Artists of DC (BADC), a nonprofit organization that provides Black artists with resources, educational programming, monthly critiques, and exhibition opportunities. During her tenure, BADC established the Harlee Little Artist Residency, providing studio space and funding to further residents’ practices. Zoma currently serves as Secretary of the Board at Pyramid Art Center in Hyattsville, MD.
Zoma holds a BA from Spelman College, an MFA from Howard University, and is a PhD candidate in Art Theory, Aesthetics, & Philosophy at the Institute for Doctoral Studies in the Visual Arts (IDSVA).

Joe Pagac’s mural, “The Wailin’ Mailman” at the intersection of 14th & U was the first mural project to be complete and served as the anchor for its kick-off event. Standing more than 70 feet tall, the mural depicts DC area jazz great Roger Wendell “Buck” Hill and is the tallest portrait mural in the nation’s capital.
Zoma oversaw the design development process with each artist, negotiated approvals and buy-in from property owners, and the installation of 10 murals across the city, touching every ward with aerosol beauty.
